Description
This lampshade was a part of the Psyche Art Festival in St. John. The project was called “Ready to Travel” and consisted of 7 felted cocoons, representing various stages of monarch butterflies emerging from the chrysalis. Butterflies, like humans, need a safe place to rest and grow, so they can come to their full potential in life. This project is a reminder to be gentle and kind to each other, as we need as much support as possible to navigate through the rough stages of life.
As wool felt is semi-translucent, this pendant gives soft light similar to the moonlight shining through the tree leaves during a warm summer night. Imagine fireflies swarming above the flowers, inviting you into the mysterious life of the forest creatures. You can hear a distant “whoosh” of the owl’s wings, the wind whispering through the trees, babbling of the stream nearby. No rush or sudden moves, but a gentle touch of the night, covering the earth with its starry shawl.
The cocoons are made of the finest merino wool through the process of wet felting, which makes them strong and durable. Wool is naturally fire-resistant, water-resistant and non-toxic. This lampshade comes with a lampstand and a cord.
